Subaru reveals Isle of Man Time Attack WRX STI livery
Co-developed with Prodrive, this WRX STI will be driven by Mark Higgins for new lap record attempt at the TT Subaru has unveiled the livery of the purpose-built WRX STI it’ll use to try and set a new lap record at this year’s Isle of Man TT.The Japanese car maker has provided British rally driver Mark Higgins with an STI at the event in recent years, and this year it has sought help from its old World Rally Championship (WRC) partner Prodrive. This is to ensure the 2016 car beats the current record, which is a lap time of 19min 15sec, set in an older WRX STI in 2014 (see video below).“We are excited to be back and running on the Isle of Man TT course,” said Subaru America’s Communications boss, Dominick Infante. “We have previously run the TT Course in near-stock Subaru WRX STIs, but this year we set out to design the ultimate WRX STI for this circuit.”No details have been released about the new car, and Prodrive has yet to comment, but previous images suggest that it has received aerodynamic and suspension upgrades, as well as a stripped-out interior and slick tyres.Prodrive will most likely have dedicated a large percentage of its support to fine-tuning chassis settings. If the 2016 car is like the 2014 model, it won’t have received any engine modifications, but it may get a more free-breathing exhaust. That means that like the regular car, it will produce about 296bhp and 300lb ft of torque. However, stickier tyres, a fixed rear wing, and a more aggressive spring and damper set-up should ensure Higgins’s car is significantly more agile. For Higgins to beat his record 2014 lap time, he’ll have to average more than 117.5mph over the 37.7-mile TT road course. His run will take place at some point during the two-week event, which is held from 28 May to 10 June.2014 lap record attemptProdrive and Subaru last worked together in 2008, when an 18-year relationship came to an end after Subaru withdrew from the WRC. The partnership won three drivers’ and three manufacturers' titles with world-class drivers including Colin McRae, Richard Burns, and Petter Solberg.Don’t expect this year’s tie-up to lead to a new assault on the WRC, though. Paul Tunnicliffe, managing director of Subaru importer IM Group, told Autocar in a recent interview that “those days are long gone, killed by CO2 emissions and taxation, among other things”.Subaru has also provided Team BMR with Levorg estates to compete in this year’s British Touring Car Championship. The outfit struggled at the opening round at Brands Hatch last weekend but expects to make swift progress as it gets to grips with the new cars.Sam Sheehan and Cameron Tait

New Ford Focus RS RX Rallycross challenger revealed
Ken Block will race Ford's new 600bhp Rallycross racer, based on the Focus RS, in Portugal this weekend; even hotter road car under consideration The new Ford Focus RS will make its racing debut this weekend, at the hands of Ken Block. The Ford Focus RS RX will race in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Portugal, piloted by Block and Norwegian driver Andreas Bakkerud. Block was famously involved in developing the roadgoing Focus RS.Ford says the race-spec RS features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 600bhp and permanent four-wheel drive, as per current Rallycross specifications. All Rallycross vehicles can sprint to 60mph from a standing start in 1.9sec - faster than an F1 car. The regular Focus RS is powered by a 2.3-litre Ford Ecoboost petrol engine producing 345bhp.Public reaction to the Focus RS RX is likely to fuel demand for an even hotter version of the current road car, which Autocar recently awarded a full five-star road test rating.During the development of the Focus RS, Autocar learned that an even more hardcore variant of the car was under consideration, and that Ford Performance officials would gauge the public's reaction to the regular car to see if there was enough interest in a special edition version. The even more hardcore RS would come with more straight-line performance, greater levels of grip and a more aggressive look than the regular car - all this would be achieved through weight saving, an upgraded drivetrain and by fitting more aerodynamic bodywork. The car would be pitched against premium competition including the Mercedes-AMG A45 and Audi's RS3.Ford says the development of its new Rallycross car was a collaboration between the Ford Performance division, Ken Block's Hoonigan Racing Division and the UK-based M-Sport.The opening round of the 2016 FIA World Rallycross Championship takes place in Portugal this weekend, with subsequent rounds taking in circuits, such as Germany's Hockenheim, The Circuit de Catalunya in Spain and Lydden Hill in the UK.Watch Ken Block test the new Ford Focus RS RX in the video below.

Renault previews driverless future with Espace Autonomous Drive
Renault plans to go fully autonomous by 2020; EU Transport Ministers sample them first hand Renault has revealed three Espace Autonomous Drive demonstrators to 28 European Union Transport Ministers as part of its push for the adoption of driverless technology. The ministers were meeting in the Netherlands to sign the Amsterdam Declaration in favour of autonomous cars.Renault claims the Espace Autonomous Drive has already gained “several hundred hours” of autonomous testing on public roads across Europe. It says tests have shown the technology is fast becoming safer than human control, claiming that more than 90% of accidents are caused by human error. Renault therefore argues that using autonomous cars will drastically reduce accident rates.VideoAt the New York motor show last month, Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn pledged to bring driverless cars to the mass market, with the expectation of delivering a car that could drive itself without human input by 2020. The first step towards this goal will come with the 2017 Nissan Qashqai, which Renault-Nissan has said will be able to drive autonomously in a single lane of a motorway.Renault-Nissan faces stiff competition in the race to produce the first mass-produced autonomous car. Last year, Tesla introduced autonomous features via a software update on its Model S, and more recently, technology that allows owners to summon their car. It’s clear driveless technology is becoming a more prominent feature for the motoring industry, with more than half of new cars sold in 2015 featuring some form of autonomous system. Of the sytems currently on offer, the majority of car buyers choose emergency braking and blind spot monitoring. However, a recent study by WhatCar? revealed that most British buyers still choose optional infotainment features over driver assist functions.Cameron Tait

2018 Jeep Wrangler Pickup
Surely you窶况e heard the news that Jeep head-honcho Mike Manley confirmed a pickup version of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler during an interview at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Since then, we窶况e been busy listening to rumors and developing sketches of what we envision the Jeep Pickup will look like. In the mean time, we had already created a rendering for the next-gen Wrangler SUV, so attaching the cargo bed to the Wrangler didn窶冲 involve rocket science. The new Wrangler, presumed to be dubbed the JL, will likely debut for the 2018 model year. It窶冱 highly likely Jeep will release the pickup version along side the Wrangler SUV, as Manley confirmed the Wrangler pickup would be available before 2019.Both the Wrangler and Wrangler pickup will share the same chassis, drivetrain, interior, and most exterior parts, keeping costs down and maintaining the Wrangler image across both vehicles. The pickup will likely be available only as a crew cab, short bed configuration, built off the Wrangler Unlimited chassis.Jeep will likely have to extend the Wrangler窶冱 frame to accommodate the extra length needed for the bed. This means a longer, more stable Wrangler for on-road driving and trailer towing, but a slightly less maneuverable and (dare I say) capable Wrangler for off-roading adventures. It窶冱 the break-over angle that will suffer the most, making the Wrangler pickup more vulnerable to high centering. As for the name, Jeep could resurrect the Scrambler name, a moniker that dates back to the CJ-8 of the 1980s. There窶冱 also the Gladiator name, most recently seen on the Wrangler-based pickup concept from 2005. Regardless of its name, the Wrangler pickup will be an exciting addition to the Jeep lineup. With that in mind, let窶冱 dive into the speculated details.Continue reading to learn more about the upcoming Jeep Wrangler Pickup.

Tesla's Autopilot System Includes Another Easter Egg From Elon Musk
Tesla has never been shy about taking some amusing liberties with its products. These often range from the inane to the hilarious, as was the case when it somehow found a way to include the iconic Lotus submarine from the James Bond classic 窶弋he Spy Who Loved Me窶 in one of the software updates for the Model S back in 2015. This new Easter egg, as some have referred to, isn窶冲 as cool as the Lotus submarine or as mentally stimulating as the so-called 窶彗nswer to the meaning of life.窶 But it is interesting, especially if you窶决e the type who happens to love anything that involves an explosion of color. This Easter egg is called the 窶徘sychedelic cowbell road,窶 aptly named by no less than Tesla CEO Elon Musk. It can be accessed when drivers engage the autopilot system on their Tesla models, but actually enabling it can be a little tricky, especially if you miss out on the instructions. In a nutshell, the Tesla driver must engage the autopilot system by pulling the cruise control stalk towards them.Once that窶冱 done and the autopilot system is activated, a blue icon will appear at which point, the driver needs to pull back on the same stalk four times in quick succession. If the attempt is successful, the typically mundane road representation on the dashboard immediately turns into a colorful cowbell road that looks similar to the rainbow bridge over at Asgard.I窶冦 not sure what it does to improve the autopilot system, but it is a neat little trick that adds some literal color to the automaker窶冱 autopilot driving system. At the very least, it shows that whatever you may think of Elon Musk, you can窶冲 deny the fact that the man knows how to have some fun, even if it sometimes comes at the expense of tweaking our sense and sensibilities.Continue after the jump to read the full story.

Seven Aston Martin specials the GT8 has to live up to
To celebrate the arrival of the new Vantage GT8, we remember seven of Aston Martin's greatest special editions from recent time Aston Martin has just revealed the new Vantage GT8, a lightweight, race-inspired coupﾃｩ based on the Vantage V8.This hardcore sports car has excited fans of Astons the world over, but it窶冱 just one of many special-edition models to come from the British car maker. To celebrate its arrival,ﾂwe remember seven of Aston Martin窶冱 greatest special-edition cars.Have we left any off the list? Let us know in the comments below.V12 ZagatoIn 2011, Aston Martin launched its first Zagato-bodied model in eight years, following 2003窶冱 DB7-based DB AR1. With only 150 units produced at a cost of ﾂ｣405,000, Aston wanted the V12 Zagato to be a collector窶冱 item only.It was based on the regular V12 Vantage and designed in Gaydon, rather than in Zagato窶冱 home in Milan. Today, the model is often labelled as the car maker's prettiest creation. It even insprired the rear of Kahn's modified DB9, the Vengeance.Vantage N24The Vantage N24 was originally a racing version of the road-going V8 Vantage that competed in the 2006 Nﾃｼrburgring 24-hour race. Aston Martin then decided to launch a limited run of customer N24 Vantages, with the option of gaining Single Vehicle Approval so they can be driven on public roads. The N24 went on sale in 2007 for ﾂ｣78,720. It retained the centre console of the road-going V8 Vantage but did away with the interior trim, contributing to a weight saving of around 250kg. It also featured a bigger fuel tank, bigger anti-roll bars and a full roll cage.We took a Vantage N24 to the 2008 Britcar 24-hour and finished on the podium after starting from 20th on the grid. You can read about the experience here.DBSMany remember the DBS as the Aston Martin from Daniel Craig窶冱 first appearance as James Bond in Casino Royale. But to many, it was better described as a road version of the DBR9 GT1 racing car.As such, it was a significant improvement over the DB9 and was Aston窶冱 best-selling GT at the time. The DBS featured button-activated adjustable suspension that could stiffen up for hard driving or soften off for a more supple ride. At the time, few cars could offer this best-of-both-worlds formula.Lagonda TarafMany regard Aston Martin as one of the best producers of comfortable GT cars, so it was little surprise when the brand announced it would be building a Rolls-Royce and Bentley-rivaling Lagonda Taraf. What was surprising, however, was Aston窶冱 decision to strictly limit Lagonda production in order to boost exclusivity well beyond the levels of Rolls-Royces.Aston Martin planned to produce just 200 examples of the Lagonda Taraf, with prices starting at ﾂ｣685,000. You can read our review of it here.Vantage GT12Aston Martin窶冱 most recent special edition, the Vantage GT12, is the company窶冱 response to the likes of Porsche窶冱 GT3 RS and the Ferrari 458 Speciale. The GT12 is inspired by Aston窶冱 GT3 racing car, which is evident by the huge rear wing and carbonfibre splitter.Using the Vantage S as a base, its cabin swaps leather and foam for lashings of carbonfibre and Alcantara. For buyers really serious about weight saving, the car窶冱 glass windows could be replaced with plastic items. Aston Martin only produced 100 examples, all of which sold for ﾂ｣250,000 each.One-77The One-77 is Aston Martin窶冱 attempt at an ultra-exclusive supercar. The One-77 is a reference to its production, as only 77 examples were produced at an eye-watering ﾂ｣1.2 million.Producing 750bhp and 553lb ft from its 7.3-litre V12 engine, the One-77 was - and still is - Aston窶冱 most powerful production car to date. That doesn窶冲 include the 800bhp Vulcan, because that car can窶冲 be driven on public roads. We rode shotgun in a One-77 back in 2012. You can read about it here.DB4GT ZagatoThe Aston Martin DB4GT Zagato is the most exclusive car on this list. That窶冱 not down to Aston restricting the production of the car, but because there simply wasn窶冲 enough interest to begin with. Therefore, only 19 examples were produced, leading to the high resale values seen in classic car auctions of today. The DB4GT Zagato is also known for having the world窶冱 longest production line when it was originally launched in 1960. The cars were assembled in Newport, then exported to Milan to fit the Zagato body, before being shipped back to Newport for customer delivery.Cameron Tait

Aston Martin Vantage GT8 revealed
Aston Martin says this is the most driver-focused V8 Vantage ever produced; only 150 to be built at a price of ﾂ｣165,000 each Aston Martin has revealed its latest limited-edition sports car, the Vantage GT8, a model inspired by the GTE race car programme with which Aston Martin competes in the World Endurance Championship. The GT8 follows in the wake of the successful, limited-run GT12 of last year. Just 150 examples of the GT8 will be sold, costing from ﾂ｣165,000 apiece.Unlike the GT12, the GT8 窶 as its name suggests 窶 is based on the V8 Vantage, which has a 4.7-litre engine, rather than the larger-capacity V12 Vantage S, which uses a 6.0-litre engine. In the GT8, the V8窶冱 power has been increased by 10bhp over the regular Vantage, giving it 440bhp, with drive being sent to the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed.Sportshift single-clutch automated manual gearbox. The GT8 won窶冲 be offered with the seven-speed manual transmission Aston has been developing.Of more significance is the GT8窶冱 weight. Because it is inspired by the WEC racing car, the GT8 has benefited from a significant weight reduction programme and an optional aerodynamic package said to mimic that of the race car. With wider, carbonfibre body panels, a lighter exhaust system with the secondary catalysts removed and magnesium wheels as standard, plus acrylic plastic windows and a lithium ion battery as options, the GT8 weighs up to 100kg less than the standard car, making it the lightest and most powerful V8 Vantage yet made. The wheels save 8kg all round and the battery saves 17kg, and it窶冱 even possible to specify plastic rather than glass switches in the cockpit, although that saving is measured in grams Those statistics, along with the car窶冱 exclusivity, have been enough to ensure that Aston Martin had sold three quarters of the car窶冱 150-strong allocation before it was officially announced. Around a third of the build run is likely to remain in the UK, with the rest split equally between Asia and mainland Europe, when deliveries begin in the autumn.7 Aston Martin specials the GT8 has to live up toThe GTE race car weighs some 400kg less than the road-going GT8, which, apart from the absence of leather upholstery, retains much of the regular Vantage窶冱 interior, while power is around 480bhp. The GTE also receives some significant aerodynamic modifications. It must share the same body silhouette as the road car, but aerodynamic addenda are given more freedom. The GTE racing car sits in the middle of Aston窶冱 competition line-up, above the 4.7-litre GT4, which has the same powertrain as the V8 Vantage road car, but beneath the V12-powered GT3 racer that inspired the GT12 road variant (which was itself going to be called GT3 until Porsche complained). Some of those aerodynamic changes are recreated for the GT8, although they are optional extras rather than standard fit as they were on the earlier, more expensive and more exclusive GT12, which cost ﾂ｣250,000 and was limited to a 100-strong build run.Likewise, the GT12窶冱 vented bonnet isn窶冲 an option on the GT8, in order to retain a differentiation between the two limited-edition models. Both front and rear elements of the GT8窶冱 aero package, incorporating a large front splitter and a huge rear wing, have to be specified together, because only having one or the other would upset the car窶冱 downforce balance.Speaking exclusively to Autocar, Aston Martin design chief Marek Reichman said the exterior changes 窶忤ere all about enhancing the aero package but not adding any weight窶, so in addition to the splitter and wing, there are aerodynamic improvements via the body surfacing itself. 窶弸ou can see from the front wing where we窶决e releasing high pressure air from the wheel arch,窶 said Reichman. As with the GT12, the GT8 is available in some 窶鷲alo窶 colours, including the same shades 窶 Stirling Green with lime 窶 and a similar scheme to Aston窶冱 GTE cars. Also available is white with green highlights, and silver with blue. Production of halo-colour cars will be capped, however, because they greatly increase the GT8窶冱 build time due to the car being returned to the paint shop for the contrasting colour details to be added after it has been assembled. If those were painted initially, there窶冱 a chance they wouldn窶冲 line up once the body panels were fitted to the car.Reichman says GT8 customers are tending to be fairly extreme with colour and specification choices, allowing their 窶忤ild side窶 to come out and 窶徘utting the graphics on, choosing all the options and enjoying the car窶冱 analogue feeling. So far we窶况e seen a great response in terms of customers wanting to show the true spirit of what Vantage GT8 is all about.窶Other options available on the GT8 include carbonfibre badges, a carbonfibre grille, carbonfibre lower valences and a carbonfibre roof, although the last option barely saves any weight because the car窶冱 窶老H窶 architecture means the roof isn窶冲 a load-bearing panel.Quite how the GT8 will drive we窶况e yet to discover, but Reichman describes it as 窶忻ery dynamic窶. Aston claims the GT8 is the most driver-focused V8 Vantage it has yet made, and the dynamics team, under the leadership of Matt Becker, have done a surprising amount of work on the ride and handling characteristics. The end result is intended to start putting more clear space between different Aston Martin models, according to Reichman. 窶弩e have a much broader visual language that will go into Aston Martins and therefore the driving characteristics,窶 he said. The GT8 is the first of two special-edition cars that Aston Martin will launch this year. Aston is planning on launching two every year, capitalising on the market窶冱 increasing demand for limited-run special edition cars such as this or, for example, Porsche窶冱 Cayman GT4 and 911 R models. Not all specials will be race-inspired, but are said to augment the core range. 窶廬t窶冱 taking a walk on the wild side and doing the unexpected,窶 said Reichman. The core range itself is also undergoing a massive new product rollout, starting with the upcoming DB11, which is said to have a much more compliant ride quality, as befits a GT car, than the outgoing DB9. The range will also be supplemented by the DBX crossover before the end of the decade. 窶弋he DB11 is the start of our second century plan, a six-year plan,窶 said Reichman. 窶弋here窶冱 a cadence, and every nine months there窶冱 a new product coming.窶

Each attendee was sent an invitation to the launch, complete with an early sketch of the car, shown in our gallery. The GT8 is set to be the lightest Vantage yet made. It looks like it'll receive an almost identical bodykit to that of the Vantage GT12, with a fixed rear wing and an extended front spoiler, although these new spy pictures suggest it could get a less cluttered rear diffuser. As with the V12-powered GT12 revealed last year, the GT8 is set to use carbonfibre, titanium and aluminium to create a stripped-out sports car that can rival Porsche's 911 GT3 RS. Performance details haven't been revealed, but 0-60mph is likely to take around 4.5sec – 0.3sec quicker than the V8 Vantage S.Prices are expected to start at around £170,000, but as with the GT12, there will be some costly options on offer to further boost the GT8's performance. Expect to see a seven-speed manual gearbox offered alongside the existing sequential manual transmission.Aston is said to be limiting GT8 production to 150 units, with around 40 of those destined for sale in the UK. The car has reportedly been revealed to customers already, so expect official pictures and details shortly.

Mahindra e2o electric car launches in UK
Car maker says this is the model that'll close the price gap between diesel and electric cars; it's priced above the Renault Twizy but undercuts the Zoe and Nissan Leaf Indian carmaker Mahindra has launched its e2o electric car in the UK, a three-door hatchback with four seats designed specifically for easy urban commuting, with a claimed range of 79 miles.Only available to purchase online now with deliveries starting in May, the G-Wiz successor will be priced from £12,995 (once UK grants have been applied), making it more than double its Indian equivalent, the Reva, which costs around £6,000.However, the e20 is an upgraded version of the Reva with more safety equipment, a larger battery and a higher quality interior. With two trim levels available, the higher-spec TechX starts at £15,995 (with UK grants applied) and includes a touchscreen infotainment centre with reversing camera, telematics, Revive remote emergency recharging, leather seats, alloy wheels and a rapid charging port. The price range makes it more expensive than the Renault Twizy, which starts at £6895, but cheaper than cars like the Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf, which cost around £18,445 and £25,790 respectively. With a top speed of 63mph, the 13.9kWh lithium-ion battery has 42bhp and 67lb ft of instantly available torque, and takes nine hours to charge from empty.Unveiled today at London’s Design Museum by Mahindra group chairman, Anand Mahindra, the company says that owners doing the UK average of 7,900 miles per year and charging the car at home at night on an Economy 7 tariff, will pay under £10 a month on fuel.By selling cars online rather than through dealerships, Mahindra says the car “closes the price gap between diesel and electric cars”; test drives can be booked online in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Milton Keynes, with additional test drive cities to be announced later. The entire sales and aftermarket process is digital, with Mahindra's electric boss Arvind Mathew saying the firm is "trying to create a convenience model". "Our customers want no hassle," he added. He estimates that 90% of vehicle maintenance - mostly servicing - will be carried out at owners' homes and cost no more than traditional servicing. Mobile vans are already in place around the country to undertake the work.Mathew expects "some bugs" in the all-digital system in the early days, but once these have been ironed out, the firm will expand beyond London, Birmingham, Bristol and Milton Keynes.Alongside tech already seen on electric vehicles including the ability to remotely control key functions of the car such as pre-heating/cooling the car, Mahindra offers a remote emergency charging feature on the e2o giving the driver up to 8 miles of range if the battery is depleted. There are also onboard sensors which send car data to Mahindra allowing remote health monitoring and customer alerts. The touchscreen infotainment system, available on the TechX model, offers satellite navigation with ‘range remaining’ maps featuring charge point locations. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi hotspot connection, USB, SD card, DAB radio and a built-in reversing camera. The e20 is equipped with dual SRS airbags, Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Stability Control and a regenerative braking system. When asked whether the e20 would be a safer proposition than the g-Wiz which was notoriously unsafe, Mathew said: "the G-wiz was a quadracycle; this is a car which can be driven on highways and is a full M1-certified vehicle." However, the car will not be tested by EuroNCAP with Mathew commenting that the system was for high-volume cars.Although he is not forecasting sales volumes, as his first task is to establish the brand and successful introduce its digital sales model, Mathew said the car, which is built in Bangalore, could be produced in the UK if demand exceeds expectations. "If the volume goes through the roof, I'd be happy to assemble the car in the UK," he confirmed.Right car at right timePravin Shah, boss of Mahindra’s Automotive operations believes that the e2o is the right car at the right time for the UK market: “There has never been a better time for people to make the change to electric, and with the e2o there has never been an easier or more affordable way to make this transition.“The e2o is an innovative combination of advancements in automotive, electronics and information technology paired with minimal running costs and zero tailpipe emissions. This makes it the ideal urban runabout or second car for the two-and-a-half-million UK households that can charge the car at home in a driveway or garage.”Speaking about the e2o’s arrival on British roads, Anand Mahindra, Mahindra chairman, said: “I invite people to come and test drive the Mahindra e2o ‘ElectriCity Car’ and help drive a positive change to the air quality in their cities. Sustainability is at the heart of Mahindra’s business practices and with the introduction of the e2o to the UK market, we are offering a product that perfectly encapsulates our corporate philosophy.”

Tesla Model 3 orders approach 400,000
New video emerges online; mass-market electric car can cover 0-60mph in less than six seconds; orders now equate to more than $14 billion of implied future sales Tesla has reportedly received nearly 400,000 deposits for the new Model 3, which has now received the title of the best selling product of all time. The order now corresponds to more than $14-billion (c£9.95bn) worth of potential sales, and would see the firm's Gigafactory - which has an expected annual output of 500,000 batteries a year - using the vast majority of its resources for the Model 3.The first video footage of a Tesla Model 3 in the wild surfaced online earlier this week.A staggering 276,000 deposits came in the first 72 hours of the order books being opened, with 117,000 orders placed before the car been unveiled.Video footageThe Model 3, unveiled at a launch event in California, is the fourth all-electric model to come from Tesla and is the affordable car that company owner Elon Musk says he set out to build from the very beginning.Like Tesla’s other models, the all-new Model 3 boasts some pretty impressive headline figures. Although exact specifications have not yet been confirmed, the car is claimed to be capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in less than six seconds in its most basic form and can eke out more than 250 miles from one charge. It can do this while seating five adults "comfortably", said Musk. He added that no combustion-engined car of this size could offer as much cabin space. Thanks to the lack of combustion engine up front, front-row passengers sit further forward than normal, freeing up more space for those behind, and a single-pane panoramic sunroof gives the cabin a more open feel.Like the Model S, there are two boot compartments – one at the front and one at the back.Musk makes some bold claims for safety, saying that it has come first in the car’s development. He expects the Model 3 to be awarded five stars in every safety category. All Model 3s will come as standard with Tesla’s latest autopilot features and use a tablet-style dash-mounted infotainment system much like that of the Model S.Deliveries are expected to kick off in late 2017, with cars priced at $35,000 – which equates to about £25,000, although this is expected to grow once external and UK import costs are accounted for.The Model 3 will rival the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.All Model 3s will come with access to Tesla’s network of Superchargers, but it has not yet been confirmed if their use will be free for Model 3 owners, despite this currently being the case for the Model S. Currently there are 3600 Superchargers worldwide, but Tesla wants to double this number by the end of 2017, while exceeding 7000 end-of-destination chargers by the same date. There will also be more than 441 Tesla servicing stations across the globe by the end of 2017.In anticipation of the Model 3’s growing demand, Tesla wants to build 500,000 batteries a year. Its newly built Gigafactory (which has the largest footprint of any building of any kind) will produce more lithium ion batteries than all other lithium ion battery production combined.Elon Musk on the Model 3Elon Musk says the Model 3 is the affordable electric car he set out to build from the beginning.“Why are we making the Model 3? Because we want to accelerate the transition to a future of sustainable transport,” he said at the car’s launch event.“We’re now at record high CO2 levels and we recently passed 400 parts per million of CO2. To address this, we came up with the Tesla secret master plan. It was originally a trilogy; now it’s a four-part trilogy…“With any technology, it takes many iterations before you can make it low in price and high in volume. The Roadster was a low-volume, high-price car, and the Model S and X are mid-volume, mid-price products. The Model 3 is therefore our high-volume, affordable-price model. It’s only been possible to reach this after the prior models.”Read more:Seven innovative cars that preceded Tesla's Model 3Blog - Should we care about Tesla?Tesla Model S P85D reviewTesla's £3bn GigafactoryBlog - Why Tesla's Elon Musk doesn't think like other car company executives

2016 Ferrari 488 GTB review
A first drive of Ferrari's mid-engined V8 488 GTB in right-hand drive configuration confirms our suspicion that it's the new act to beat Ferrari's 488 GTB, the 458 Italia’s replacement, is here in right-hand-drive format at last. The last time we encountered it, it was taking first-place honours as Britain’s Best Driver’s Car; a feat it managed despite having its steering wheel jauntily angled to the port side. Now, after what seems like forever (Ferrari has managed to launch the Spider in the meantime), the DVLA-approved, UK-registered coupe has finally landed.Read our Ferrari 488 Spider review hereThe 488 is Ferrari’s mid-engine heartbeat: more expensive than the soft-top, soft-bellied California, and a little cheaper than the V12-powered FF or F12. Broadly speaking, it gets the same twin-turbocharged V8 engine as the Cali-T, albeit with uprated internals, a longer stroke, and more power. Quite a bit more in fact, developing 661bhp at a higher 8000rpm limit. Its rear-drive chassis is based on the 458, although it too has been substantially overhauled. The steering rack and dampers are from the Speciale, and it gets a new generation of that model’s innovative Side Slip Control. The brakes, meanwhile, are from the LaFerrari. The 488 GTB is the manufacturer’s first series production car to get active aerodynamics, and there’s a revised version of Ferrari’s spectacular seven-speed dual clutch gearbox as standard.Prices start at £183,964 in the UK, where cruise control, rear parking sensors, the USB port, and the anti-theft satellite tracker are thrown in as standard.Nevertheless, as with anything else in its class, that price won’t feature on the bottom of many order forms. Our press car, thanks in part to plenty of additional carbon fibre, a £7k paintjob and £5k “Goldrake” seats, has a pricetag of £248,860.

Seat reveals new smartphone connectivity features
Following the Internet of Things trend across the industry, Seat adds new features to its Android smartphone app Seat has revealed upcoming added functions to its smartphone app, including locking and unlocking, a car park finder and key sharing abilities. The smartphone app is now capable of locking and unlocking the driver窶冱 car, and a 窶鰐ey窶 sharing function allows car owners to grant access to their car via their contacts. This means other smartphone owners who have been granted access can drive the car, although the access-giver can limit the maximum speed and distance from a point which the car can travel under the control of the secondary driver. The access-giver can also monitor the location of the car; indicating that the target market for the new tech is parents, sharing or buying a car for children of driving age. The system cannot be operated from afar, operating only within close proximity of the car when the smartphone is connected via Bluetooth. Also featuring on the app is a car park finder, which locates local car parks and can locate, reserve and pre-pay for a space, as well as automatically pay for extra time, should the driver outstay their reservation.Lleyre Olavarria, Seat窶冱 head of connectivity, talked through the new features at the unveiling of Seat窶冱 new digital museum, which celebrates the brand窶冱 little-known heritage.窶弩e think that drivers always want to be connected," he said. "Now through Full Linkﾂ[Seat窶冱 smartphone connectivity system], you can access your emails and social media and connect with the outside world while driving."Now you have a choice: you can listen to music or you can use Full Link to make sure that just because you窶决e driving, you don窶冲 have to be offline."That connection doesn窶冲 end when you get out of the car, either; we窶决e making sure that before and after you drive, you窶冤l have the convenience of Seat connected technology, like pre-route programming of directions into sat-nav systems.窶Olavarria couldn窶冲 confirm when Seat will launch the technology, although he insisted that the next generation of Seat connectivity technologies are of considerable importance to the 窶young-spirited窶 Seat brand.

Mini Cooper John Cooper Works F300 by Manhart Racing
Mini may forever be known as a company that窶冱 predisposed to quirkiness, but it did itself a lot of good by introducing the John Cooper Works, considered as the most powerful Cooper that Mini has developed in its lifetime. The debut of the Cooper JCW not only showed Mini窶冱 willingness to engage the hot hatch market, but more importantly it proved that it could actually do it. But as good as the Cooper JCW is on the road, there窶冱 always the potential for the car to be better. That窶冱 where Manhart Racing, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, comes into the picture. The German tuner saw fit to commemorate the occasion with the unveiling of the 窶廡300窶 program for the Cooper JCW. In a lot of ways, the tuning kit窶冱 main focus is to improve the hot hatch窶s performance and handling credentials. In doing so, it developed a program that addressed both those things, while also giving the Cooper JCW refreshing upgrades on both the exterior and interior. The result is a fascinating take on the hot hatch that not only highlights Mini窶冱 fascination for the off-beat but more importantly, the Cooper JCW窶冱 understated performance capabilities that fit its status as Mini窶冱 de facto flagship model. The program also has a few surprises along the way, but why spoil them when you can read the whole thing for yourselves.Continue after the jump to read the full review.

Why petrolheads should welcome the electric car
There窶冤l always be room for oil burners, so long as they窶决e used appropriately The recent rapid growth in popularity of the electric car has sparked some concern within the motor industry. People who like cars that make sounds and vibrate and smell of oil say electric cars are soulless; that while they emit nothing from their tailpipes, they lack the visceral experience of a throbbing V8 or highly-strung four-pot. These people are right. Those of you who have driven a Tesla Model S will be familiar with the sensation of linear acceleration, but while it窶冱 undeniably impressive, I bet few would say it窶冱 as immersive as, say, a naturally aspirated flat-six. Because while the electric car surges forward like a runaway train, the petrol one builds and builds likes an orchestra as the revs rise. When we窶决e talking about the experience, electric cars, even in their most extreme form, just can窶冲 compete with combustion engined ones. And that窶冱 just fine, because they shouldn窶冲 have to.Recent trends in the motor industry suggest we could soon be facing a two-lane future for cars. In the right hand lane we have this new breed of electric cars that offer increasing range and zero tailpipe emissions, while on the left, we have a new breed of combustion engine cars, less focused on reducing CO2 figures and more concerned with driver engagement and thrill factor.Evidence comes with two recently launched models. The first is the Tesla Model 3, which has already been labelled as the first electric car to be bought by the masses. More than 325,000 deposits have been taken, suggesting the Model 3 and its predecessor could one day be as common a sight on our roads as the Ford Fiesta. The second is the highly contrasting Ford Mustang, which despite being available with a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, has been bought by an overwhelming majority in hairy-chested V8 manual guise. Ok, so production numbers are well down on the Tesla, but the Mustang isn窶冲 a car for the masses, it窶冱 a car for the drivers. These lovers of driving are prepared to sacrifice efficiency and mpg in order to own something fun and immersive; something that窶冱 a bit silly. Need more proof? Look at how the world reacted to the Porsche Cayman GT4, and then the 911 R.So while it窶冱 true the electric car is exploding in popularity, it窶冱 also true that the combustion engine is now finding its feet again. Sure, we still have plenty of downsizing diesels and petrols that clog up a middle lane, but those cars窶 days are numbered, as it seems almost certain that they窶冤l soon to be replaced by all-electric alternatives.I say let the electric motor take care of the boring but important stuff like cleaning up city air and reducing localised pollution. It窶冱 time for the combustion engine, in smaller production numbers, to get back to being fun again.I窶冤l leave you with a quote from Spyker CEO Victor Muller, who seems to share my thoughts for the future of the motor industry: 窶廬f I drive an SUV, I don窶冲 mind having a quiet engine. Electric power is therefore sellable here,窶 he said. 窶廝ut If I take away the sensation of a V8 or a V12 from a super or sports car, I think it will be very hard to sell.窶A future of electric city cars and combustion-engined sports cars doesn窶冲 sound so bad to me. Don窶冲 you agree?

Comment: Could electric motors replicate the combustion engine?
We have the technology to give electric motors some of the characteristics of combustion engines, so why don't we? As any comedian knows, it窶冱 all in the delivery. And as every agony aunt will tell you, it窶冱 not what you have but what you do with it. Which is why I wrote to Dear Dier窶ｦ No.ﾂWhich is why so many engineers spend tens of thousands of hours developing engines to drive a certain way. A way that drivers don窶冲 just accept but actually like 窶 or, at the very least, don窶冲 notice. They strive to remove vibration or put in pleasing sounds and responses. At the lowest level they design a counter-rotating balance shaft for a three-cylinder engine so it doesn窶冲 shake so much that people buy a rival car instead. And at the top end they might consider whether a flat or crossplane crank is preferable. They try to limit turbo lag. You窶囘 scarcely believe the trouble to which they go to do this: ultralow-friction cylinder linings, super-effective turbocharger shapes and materials, even the way a crankshaft is profiled to swish through sump oil, getting sufficient lubrication but causing minimal drag.Every last component is considered to give precisely the kind of delivery, response, feedback and noise that they think is right for the car. Some people spend their working lives dedicated to it. It is a craft Then along comes an electric motor and renders the whole lot redundant. Sorry all. Thanks for your time. We enjoyed that five-pot warble for a while. Shut the door on your way out.Curious. Now, I like electric motors. I like them in everything from my toothbrush to a 691bhp Tesla Model S, but the output of any is similar: maximum torque from zero revs and a seamless, slowly depleting delivery from there on. It窶冱 effective. But it窶冱 not exactly exciting. Not like a VTEC or big-block Chevy V8.But the electric motor is a versatile thing. In hybrids like the Honda NSX or McLaren P1, it already switches direction mid-spin to haul revs up or down to speed up gearshifts. And this quickness of response 窶 faster than any internal combustion engine 窶 could let electric motors mimic precisely the character of any diesel or (more likely) petrol engine.It窶冱 not a given you窶囘 want to, of course. But there aren窶冲 just emotional reasons you窶囘 want to. A big single-cylinder engine in an off-road motorcycle gives good traction, because between each firing stroke the torque drops and traction is regained; an electric motor could do this for a stuck 4x4. It could be programmed to reduce power at low revs and only go fast when you work it. It could limit power for inexperienced drivers. An electric motor couldn窶冲 just replicate a combustion engine, it could do all they do, and more. Which gives all those engineers something still to do. Because we窶况e barely started.

2016 Toyota C-HR - first ride
The new C-HR sits just below the RAV4 SUV, and on first impressions, it should set a new benchmark for Toyota's driving dynamics It’s impossible to avoid the striking looks of Toyota's latest crossover, the C-HR. It stands out amongst its rivals, and it's clear that from the outset, the C-HR was designed to look different to any other Toyota on sale.It does that job well, to the point that some of the current Toyota range – in particular the larger RAV4 – now look antiquated. Most of the car’s interior is under wraps for now, because final development on it is ongoing. However, a new, large central infotainment screen mounted high on the dashboard is hard to miss. The seats are comfortable, and there’s the same high seating position and good all-round visibility we’ve come to expect from SUVs. From the rear seats, there’s plenty of legroom for adults, although taller passengers may well find themselves brushing against the car’s sloping roof. The C-HR's lead engineer, Hiro Koba, sets off in this manual, two-wheel drive 1.2-litre petrol model. This model is expected to be the second most popular C-HR after the 1.8-litre hybrid. A larger 2.0-litre version will be offered in markets like Russia, where displacement and overall reliability are prized over fuel economy, but Toyota isn’t bringing that engine to the UK because of its high CO2 emissions. A plug-in hybrid version – based on the same technology which already features in the Prius – is apparently possible, but isn’t part of Toyota’s immediate plans.Benchmarked against the VW GolfThe driving dynamics of this prototype are 90% representative of the final car, Koba says. Toyota’s development team have benchmarked the car against a variety of key cars, including the Audi Q3 and Volkswagen Golf, while steering feel was modeled on that of the Skoda Yeti. Our route takes in country roads and cobbled urban streets. The C-HR feels well planted on the road, with a tight turning circle considering its size. There’s still work to be done when it comes to NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), Koba admits, and certainly there’s more than a fair share of wind noise in the cabin – not helped by the camouflage wrapping applied to our test car.Koba puts the 1.2-litre engine through its paces on the open road. It whines a little, but feels strong enough to pull the C-HR without too much effort, at least at moderate speeds. Koba says he wants to see higher capacity engines, including a turbocharged 2.0-litre variant, make their way into the C-HR at some point. As we reach a particularly fine set of bends, Koba puts his foot down, and it’s clear this area of performance is where Toyota’s engineers have focused. The C-HR feels as capable here as any hatchback, and as we ascend the French hillside, the C-HR turns into corners well, feeling balanced and well controlled. The braking force comes quickly and evenly, and the ride is supple and comfortable even over broken surfaces. Our test car has 18in alloy wheels – again, this is likely to be the best-selling option in the UK – although smaller 17in wheels will also be available.Manual preferredWe also try a model with the same 1.2-litre engine in combination with a CVT transmission. Toyota engineers insist on sticking with CVT units, even though traditional automatics and dual-clutch automatic gearboxes can be smoother. While it feels more at home in the C-HR than it does in an Auris hatchback, we’d still recommend the manual. Indeed, that’s Koba’s preference too.As we get out, I take the chance to open the boot. Buyers will be able to choose from a lower boot floor or a higher option here, and there’s 370 litres of space on offer with the rear seats in place - more than a Nissan Juke’s 354 litres but some way off the Nissan Qashqai’s 430 litres. The rear sets can also drop forwards to increase the load space. It's arguable that the C-HR has some of the best driving dynamics of any modern Toyota. It feels remarkably like a hatchback – a compliment for any model in this class. The only trouble is, the rest of the Toyota fleet , in particular ageing models like the RAV4, will struggle to live up to its standard.

Top Gear Hosts Reportedly At Odds Already
The personalities might be different now, but Top Gear still wouldn窶冲 be Top Gear without any kind of controversy. The new crop of hosts, led by radio personality Chris Evans and American actor Matt LeBlanc, are reportedly at each other窶冱 throats already and the show hasn窶冲 even come back on air yet. According to British tabloid The Sun, Evans and LeBlanc are at the center of the controversy as their relationship has supposedly gone sour in the wake of the Cenotaph controversy LeBlanc found himself in last month. Now there are rumblings that Evans didn窶冲 want LeBlanc to be part of the show in the first place, a decision he begrudgingly accepted because the BBC thought the former Friends star would help draw in American viewers. But after the Cenotaph incident, Evans reportedly reached a boiling point and their relationship, which was never close to begin with, has gone further into disrepair.LeBlanc has since tweeted out a response to the report, denying in typical LeBlanc fashion that he was 窶彗t war窶 with his co-host. It remains to be seen if Joey is telling the God-honest truth with those comments, but whatever the case may be, this isn窶冲 the kind of start the BBC and the new powers-that-be at Top Gear expected when it decided to reboot the show.On the other hand, 窶弋op Gear窶 and 窶彡ontroversy窶 have hardly become mutually exclusive to one another, so while some things may have changed with the show, it still hasn窶冲 lost its touch for being an all-encompassing lightning road for chaos and disturbance.Continue after the jump to read the full story.

Ford Focus RS RX By Hoonigan Racing
At the end of Ken Block窶冱 last Gymkhana video, Gymkhana 8, we were left hanging with a teaser of 窶廳en Blocks Ford Focus RS RX.窶 It featured an outrageously wide body kit with blacked out headlights and vents all over the place. But it raised an interesting question: Just what the hell is a Focus RS RX? Was it the 窶徂ardcore version窶 of the RX we talked about back in November of 2015? Well, it kind of is, but don窶冲 expect it to show up in dealerships anytime soon.We would love to see Ford produce a production version of the RS RX (you窶冤l see why later on in this review,) but for now, it looks like the only people lucky enough to get their hands on one will be none less than Ken Block and Andreas Bakkerud 窶 Block窶冱 new teammate. As it turns out, Hoonigan Racing Division will have official factory support from Ford for the 2016 WRC racing season. And with such, comes the most extreme variants of the Focus we窶况e seen to date.As you would expect, the cars used by Block and Bakkerud won窶冲 feature that boring gray livery we saw at the end of Gymkhana 8. Instead, the cars each feature a unique livery put together by international graffiti artist Felipe Pantone. In a recent press release, Block was more than happy with what Ford Performance did with the RS, saying 窶廬’m really happy to be expanding my relationship with Ford Performance. To have official factory support for my race season in 2016 and beyond as I enter the FIA World Rallycross Championship full-time is absolutely incredible. It opens up a ton of powerful resources that myself and my team will be able to benefit from in terms of engineering prowess, research, development and racing experience from different fields. Plus, have you seen the car that they’ve created for me to go race in? My mind was blown when they showed it to me in Dearborn a few months ago. I absolutely cannot wait to get behind the wheel and start testing.窶Of course, if Ford Performance dropped one of these babies in my lap, I窶囘 be ecstatic too. So, let窶冱 take a closer look at the most extreme Focus ever made. You won窶冲 believe the kind of performance boasted by the Focus RS RX 窶 it窶冱 truly out of this world.Continue reading to learn more about the Ford Focus RX By Hoonigan Racing.

There窶冱 something to be said for somebody who puts his Chevrolet Camaro to the absolute limit on a race track. That environment is contained and you窶决e not going to get in trouble for doing 171 mph. But on the road, or to be more specific, on a highway, the mere suggestion of doing 171 mph is absolute lunacy. Unfortunately, the driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 1SS found himself on the crosshairs of the law when he was clocked going at that exact speed along the Duluth-Two Harbors expressway, a stretch of Minnesota Highway 61.According to the Duluth News Tribune, Hermantown Police Department Deputy Chief Shawn Padden found himself having to apprehend the egregiously careless driver upon hearing the screams coming out of the radar gun on his Dodge Charger Pursuit. Padden recounted the incident, saying that the clock started showing 171 mph before the car blew past the squad car 窶彿n a blur窶 just before 7 pm local time. The quick-thinking police officer immediately gave chase, going as fast as 135 mph just to get 窶彡lose enough for him to see my lights on.窶Fortunately, Padden窶冱 Charger was up-to-task, largely thanks to the police car窶冱 370-horsepower, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine. He managed to catch up to the driver, pull him over, and cite him for misdemeanor careless driving, a step up from the traditional misdemeanor tickets routinely handed out in 窶徭lower窶 incidents. Under Minnesota law, a guilty finding or plea results in a fine of up $1,000 and jail term of up to 90 days in cases involving speeds of more than 100 mph.The incident involving the Camaro is the second time that a car was going over and above the highway窶冱 65-mph speed limit. In February 2016, a Nissan Sentra as clocked doing 137 mph.Continue after the jump to read the full story.

Rolls Royce Wraith Nautical Edition
Back in 2013 Rolls-Royce revived the Wraith name for a two-door that was smaller than its only coupe at the time, the Phantom Coupe. A spiritual successor to the Camargue (1975-1986), the Wraith became the fastest and most powerful model in Rolls-Royce’s 100-year history. Sold without any updates in its first three years on the market, the Wraith has spawned a significant number of special-edition and one-off models crafted by the company’s Bespoke division. Following the release of the all-black Wraith Black Badge model in March 2016, Rolls-Royce is now introducing the Wraith Nautical Edition, a model inspired by classic racing yachts.Designed to capture the "streamlined power of a graceful sea vessel" and fitted with an interior that pays homage to the decking seen on classic, luxury yachts, the Nautical Edition sports a unique exterior paint and a dashboard that’s not available on the standard model. As usual, the focus was to give it an exquisite appearance using custom paints, leather, and wood veneers rather that modify body panels and meddle with the drivetrain. The Wraith Nautical Edition is the second yacht-inspired car Bespoke has built recently. In 2015, the customizing division launched the Phantom Nautica Edition, which features the same Arabian Blue paint, but on the engine hood, roof, and trunk lid, rather than on the side panels, which were finished in Orchid White. While the Phantom Nautica was pretty cool to look at, the Wraith Nautical does a better job at paying tribute to classic luxury yachts. Keep reading to find out why.Continue reading to learn more about the Rolls Royce Wraith Nautical Edition.

GM accused of wilful manslaughter with unsafe cars
Leaders in Latin car safety accuse General Motors of neglecting safety in its cars in order to increase profit margins Latin road safety leaders have accused General Motors and other major car brands of deliberately removing safety features from vehicles in order to increase profit margins in South America. In a meeting hosted by Latin NCAP in Washington, USA, several members of road safety organisations expressed their anger at GM, claiming that it has actively chosen to sell models of its vehicles without basic safety equipment to the Latin markets, despite selling those same models elsewhere with airbags and electronic stability control systems as standard.Several GM models have achieved zero or one star ratings in Latin NCAP crash testing, with many more from other key manufacturers receiving similarly dismal results. The Chevrolet Aveo, which is Mexico窶冱 best selling car with 80,000 units sold in 2015, falls well short of crash safety standards with zero stars to its name. Yet 97% of Aveo owners in Mexico believe their cars are of a safe standard, illustrating just how unaware the population is of this problem.Latin NCAP tests are less strict than the equivalent crash tests in Europe and North America, emphasising just how unsafe these vehicles are, and one speaker went so far as to call GM 窶賂eneral Manslaughter窶. He said that cars with no airbags for the Latin markets were built alongside cars with ESP and airbags for North America. He called this an act of 窶忤ilful manslaughter窶.Mexico currently has more than 25-million vehicles on its road, five times more than three decades ago. But 17,000 people die each year in road accidents, which is 10 times more than the UK where there are nearly 15-million more cars on the road.Admittedly, a lot of the deaths can be attributed to lower driving standards and dangerous road infrastructure, but experts say unsafe vehicles account for the vast majority.Though GM isn窶冲 the only culprit for a bad safety record, it is the worst of the major manufacturers in this region. David Ward, Global NCAP Secretary General, has now written to Mary Barra Chairman and CEO of General Motors calling on her company address safety concerns in Latin America.Ward said: 窶廨M has chosen to exploit the weak application of minimum crash test standards in Latin America to provide a version of the car that the company would be unable to sell either in Europe or North America.窶弋wo years ago GM announced a 窶牢peak Up for Safety窶 programme billed as an important step toward embedding a customer and safety-centred culture in every aspect of the business. Global NCAP warmly welcomes these commitments but believes that they now must have practical application in Latin America and in other emerging automotive markets.窶The Latin NCAP test is now toughening up its rating system so cars that score three or more stars must be fitted with airbags and ESP as standard. Previously, ESP was not required for this level.

Infiniti has been busy preparing something new for the Beijing Auto Show, and today it finally released a teaser image of its upcoming concept. With the Beijing auto show set to kick off on April 29th, Infiniti has released a new teaser image of its soon-to-be-revealed SUV concept. Like most teaser images, it only gives us a quick glimpse into the future, but that glimpse is certainly enough to catch out attention.Infiniti窶冱 Executive Design Direction 窶 Alfonso Albaisa 窶 said, 窶弋he QX Sport Inspiration expresses a power and purpose that is uniquely Infiniti. With a flowing, natural aesthetic, this concept demonstrates how Infiniti can offer something new and exciting with future QX SUV models.窶A quick glance at the teaser image makes us think about the Q60 Concept that we saw last year in Detroit, and is said to be inspired by Infiniti窶冱 窶弃owerful Elegance窶 design language. In a sense, the concept serves as a means of exploration for Infiniti窶冱 next-generation, mid-size SUV. Of course, the teaser image leaves us with more questions than it does answers, but let窶冱 take a closer look at the teaser image anyway, and see what we can make out.Continue reading to learn more about the Infiniti QX Sport Inspiration Concept.

W Motors Fenyr SuperSport
Dubai-based supercar maker W Motors took the world by surprise in 2012 when it unveiled the Lykan Hypersport. Powered by a 770-horsepower flat-six engine built by RUF and sporting a radical design, the Lykan Hypersport had a claimed top speed of 245 mph. Production was limited at only five units per year and because of its exclusivity and the titanium, diamonds, and sapphires integrated into its fancy headlamps, pricing was set at an astounding $3.4 million. A little more than two years have passed since the Lykan HyperSport was shown to the world, and W Motors revealed its second production supercar.Called the Fenyr SuperSport, the new supercar features even more radical styling and a significantly more powerful engine. Like its predecessor, the SuperSport was developed together with Magna Steyr and RUF Automobile.Production is set to commence in 2017 right after the supercar makes its official debut, most likely at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show in China. Because production won’t be as limited as the HyperSport’s, the SuperSport will be more affordable than its predecessor, even though it will still be a million-dollar car. BMW M4 GTS
Like many high-performance vehicles, the BMW M3 has provided the perfect platform for a dozen special-edition models throughout its history. Who can forget the E36-based GTR and the E46-based CSL, or even the Cecotto and Ravaglia editions of the first-generation M3? Then there’s the GTS, arguably one of the best-performing M3s in history.Launched for the 2010 model year and with only 250 units built, the GTS was a more powerful and lighter version of the E92 M3. The coupe had a 4.4-liter V-8 rated at 444 horsepower and weighed 300 pounds less than the standard M3. These specs made it incredibly fast in the sprint to 60 mph, which took only 4.2 seconds, and it was quite popular with collectors. All 250 units sold immediately, despite a sticker of €115,000 (more than $130,000 as of 2015). Although the E92 remained the sole GTS-badged Bimmer for half a decade, the nameplate returned for the 2016 model year, this time around on the M4.Tested for many months camouflaged as a MotoGP Safety Car and then previewed as a concept at Pebble Beach, the production M4 GTS just broke cover ahead of its official public debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Granted, the GTS’ debut in Japan is rather exotic, but the Bimmer should debut in the U.S. at the Los Angeles Auto Show this November.Updated 04/14/2016: BMW dropped a series of new images for its new M4 GTS, images taken during the car’s international press launch in Barcelona, Spain. We also want to remind you that the new M4 GTS will arrive on the U.S. market in the second quarter of 2016.Click past the jump to read more about the 2016 BMW M4 GTS.

Koenigsegg Returns To Nurbrugring, Prepares for World Record Attempt
Swedish supercar brand Koenigsegg has unveiled plans to return to the Nurburgring track with its One:1 now that the German track has lifted the speed limits it introduced in 2015. The brand known to build some of the fastest and most exclusive hypercars in the world will attempt to set a new lap record on the Nordschleife loop, an attempt that was cut short when 窶漏ing management put temporary speed limits in place on certain sections of the track following a VLN crash that killed a spectator in early 2015.But, even though the One:1 will return to the "Green Hell" by the end of April, a record attempt won’t occur anytime soon. According to the company, it will take "several months" for the driver that will attempt to set a new record in the One:1 to get an intimate knowledge of the track and the car."While we foresee this taking several months, those months comprise only one or two days at the track each month. We will not be testing on public days when the track is full of 窶湾ublic窶 drivers. We will be testing on private days that we can gain access to," Koenigsegg explained in a statement. While there is no specific timetable as to when the One:1 will run its official record lap, this could happen by the end of 2016. As of April, the record for the fastest production car is being held by the Radical SR8LM with a 6:48-minute lap. The Radical SR8 is second with a 6:56-minute lap, while the Porsche 918 Spyder holds third position with a 6:57-minute lap.Continue reading to learn more about the story.

Lexus RC F GT Concept
Unveiled in 2014, the Lexus RC has already spawned a hot RC F version and three different race cars in either production or concept form. That’s quite a lot for a vehicle that has been around for only a couple of years, but apparently it’s not enough for Lexus. The Japanese automaker has announced that a new racing version of the RC F will be showcased at the 42nd Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach IndyCar race on April 17.Dubbed RC F GT Concept, it is a further development of the vehicle with the same name that Justin Bell drove to fifth place in the Time Attack class at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in June 2015. As the name suggests, it’s only a concept car and Lexus didn’t say whether it will evolve into a full-fledged race car or spawn a track-ready, road-legal version of the coupe. The company did mention that it is positioned between the street-legal RC F and the full-bore RC F GT3 race car that will soon compete in IMSA窶冱 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, but that doesn’t mean much really.Be that as it may, the new concept has received extensive modifications since the Pikes Peak race. Not only lighter, it also uses an improved drivetrain, a more competitive suspension system, and updated software. The RC F GT Concept will be driven at Long Beach by Lexus pro racers Scott Pruett, the winningest active driver in North American sports car racing, and Roger Yasukawa.Continue reading to learn more about the Lexus RC F GT Concept.

Several Bugatti Veyrons Recalled For Three Separate Issues
Automotive recalls seem to be a pretty common these days, but it窶冱 not very often you seen a manufacturer like Bugatti show up on the recall list. The crazy part is that between March 23rd and April 8th of this year, Bugatti has issued a total of three recalls for the Bugatti Veyron. For a low-volume manufacturer like Bugatti, that is a little troubling. None of the recalls are for anything that poses and immediate risk, but they shouldn窶冲 be taken lightly either. The first recall that was issued on March 23rd involves certain 2006 to 2010 Veyron models, 2010 to 2012 Veyron Grand Sport models, and 2011 to 2013 Veyron Super Sport models. On these models, there are aluminum reference plates bonded to the undercarriage for jacking and lifting purposes. It was found that these plates may corrode and fall off the vehicle, potentially creating a road hazard or striking another vehicle. Bugatti techs will rivet the plates to the underbody and reseal them to alleviate the problem. A total of 87 vehicles are affected by this recall. The next recall on the list involves the 2006 to 2010 Bugatti Veyron and 2010 to 2011 Veyron Grand Sport models. On these models, the fuel gauge may read too high, indicating that there is more fuel than there really is. To remedy the problem, Bugatti will replace the control unit for the fuel tank and update the software in the on-board computer system. This recall isn窶冲 all that serious but, to avoid running out of gas on the road, it might be a good idea to keep the tank topped up until the repair can be completed. A total of 72 vehicles are affected by this recall. The third recall is a little more serious than the others and affects just 2006 to 2008 Veyron models. It was found that the battery cable and its connection to the alternator may corrode and create excessive resistance in the battery cable. This will generate excessive heat, which could eventually spark a fire in the engine bay. Bugatti will replace the battery cable and clean up the corrosion on the alternator to take care of the problem. A total of 13 vehicles are affected by this recall, and to date, we haven窶冲 heard of any fires being caused by this problem.Continue reading for the full story.
